"Tom Latosek is a board-certified Emergency Physician and Critical Care/Resuscitation Fellow at the University of Connecticut and Hartford Hospital. Dr. Latosek’s clinical foundation began in 2007 within the Connecticut EMS system, where he served as a paramedic and EMS instructor. He completed his undergraduate studies at Bucknell University, earned a Master of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Hartford, and received his Doctor of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine. Following his Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Connecticut, he transitioned into subspecialty training in critical care. His professional interests include advanced resuscitation science, including extracorporeal life support, critical care transport, and medical education."

Navigating Neurological Emergencies (Friday, October 23, 2026 - 1:30-2:45pm)

“Neurological emergencies extend far beyond a simple “positive” stroke screen. In this case-based lecture, we dive into the nuances of advanced neuro care for both the 911 and inter-facility transport settings. We will discuss the management of intracranial hemorrhage, care of the stroke patient, and the emergent treatment of status epilepticus. Participants will learn how to formulate a management strategy for patients with suspected intracranial hemorrhage, with a focus on optimizing cerebral perfusion pressure and preventing secondary brain injury. The lecture will also review strategies for managing status epilepticus in the prehospital and transport settings, including recognition, treatment, and ongoing patient care considerations. Attendees will explore the identification of stroke signs and symptoms using EMS stroke scales, determine appropriate patient disposition, and discuss clinical decision-making strategies for managing complex neurological emergencies.”
